Project Name
Sorich Park Trail Improvements
A multiuse connection between San Anselmo and San Rafael neighborhoods
In collaboration with The Town of San Anselmo, the Marin County Open Space District (MCOSD) will improve Sorich Park Trail and change the use from hikers, dogs on leash, and equestrians only to multiuse, which also allows cyclists. This work is part of a broader initiative to improve access and visitor experience through San Anselmo's Sorich Park by updating the trail system.
- The Town of San Anselmo conducted public meetings and site visits to solicit public feedback on Sorich Park trail improvements during 2024-2025.
- MCOSD presented proposed improvements to Sorich Park Trail with an Environmental Roundtable of community organizations, and to the Parks and Open Space Commission.
- MCOSD filed a Notice of Exemption for proposed Sorich Park Trail Improvements on February 12, 2026.
- The Town Council of San Anselmo reviewed proposed trail improvements in Sorich Park at its March 10, 2026 meeting.
Sorich Park Trail extends from Cemetery Fire Road through Sorich Park, operated by the Town of San Anselmo, to the Mission Pass Bike Path. The trailhead is located within Sorich Park. The trail then crosses into the MCOSD’s Terra Linda/Sleepy Hollow Divide open space. The trail will be upgraded to multiuse standards to support the proposed change in use.
Work on Sorich Park Trail is expected to begin in spring 2026, and will take four to six weeks. Proposed improvements to MCOSD's Sorich Park Trail include:
- Widen the existing trail to four feet
- Improve tread condition by armoring the trail surface
- Implement improved drainage
- Create appropriate site lines for visitor safety by thinning small diameter trees
Other trails within the park are governed by The Town of San Anselmo, which has proposed a new pedestrian trail and connector within the park. For information on these other trail improvements, contact the Town of San Anselmo.
