Black Point Boat Launch
Launch your craft into the Petaluma River at Blackpoint in Novato.
Rangers Recommend
- Launch your motor boat, kayak, canoe, or paddle board from the high-freeboard dock or boat ramp.
- Anglers can catch striped bass, mud shrimp, and sturgeon. If you plan to fish from a boat or the shore, don't forget your fishing license [External].
- Upstream, the river leads to wetlands and farmlands. Downstream, the river connects with the San Pablo Bay Wildlife Area.
- Bring your binoculars. Waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, and songbirds are on view throughout the year.
- Dock, path, and restrooms are ADA accessible.
- Black Point is a designated trailhead on the San Francisco Bay Area Water Trail.
- Fish cleaning station, and boat hose are available.
- Friendly dogs on leash are welcome.

Know Before You Go
- A fishing license [External] is required if you fish from a boat, the shore, or the dock.
- Check weather and tides before setting out. Winds and currents can be strong.
- To avoid disturbing sensitive ecosystems, boaters must maintain a 50-foot distance from marshland habitat.
- Marin County Environmental Health Services (EHS) tests water once a week from April 1 through October 31, for California water quality standards for recreational water contact. For details, visit EHS Water Quality Testing [External].
