Black Point Boat Launch

Launch your craft into the Petaluma River at Blackpoint in Novato.

Rangers Recommend

  • Launch your motor boat, kayak, canoe, or paddle board from the high-freeboard dock or boat ramp.
  • Anglers can catch striped bass, mud shrimp, and sturgeon. If you plan to fish from a boat or the shore, don't forget your fishing license [External].
  • Upstream, the river leads to wetlands and farmlands. Downstream, the river connects with the San Pablo Bay Wildlife Area.
  • Bring your binoculars. Waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, and songbirds are on view throughout the year.
  • Dock, path, and restrooms are ADA accessible.
  • Black Point is a designated trailhead on the San Francisco Bay Area Water Trail.
  • Fish cleaning station, and boat hose are available.
  • Friendly dogs on leash are welcome.

Know Before You Go

  • A fishing license [External] is required if you fish from a boat, the shore, or the dock.
  • Check weather and tides before setting out. Winds and currents can be strong.
  • To avoid disturbing sensitive ecosystems, boaters must maintain a 50-foot distance from marshland habitat.
