Pacheco Valle Preserve

An undeveloped 519-acre refuge surrounding Pacheco Creek

Rangers Recommend

  • Take Chicken Shack Fire Road (3.2 miles) for a steep uphill climb to Big Rock Ridge. Travel through classic oak woodlands that open to views of Mount Burdell and Mount Tam.
  • Rugged quarter-mile Pacheco Creek Trail leads to a lovely seasonal waterfall.
  • The preserve is adjacent to Loma Verde Preserve, Ignacio Valley Preserve, and Marinwood open space lands that comprise 3,000 contiguous open space acres.
  • Trailheads at lower elevations connect through Marinwood via the Pacheco Multiuse Pathway.
  • Dogs are welcome. Dogs must be leashed on trail, and under voice command on fire roads, with leash readily available.

Naturalist Notes

  • Marin's tallest manzanita, Arctostaphylos manzanita, are abundant on some slopes.
  • See a variety of graceful old oaks here, including coast live oak, black oak, and valley oak.
  • This lightly travelled preserve provides habitat for coyote, deer, bobcat, and other wildlife.
