Minutes for Meeting April 25, 2025

Board Members Present: Rika Gopinath, Susan Hopp, Myrto Ashe, Bob Mauceli, Allison Hermance, Kevin Sadlier 
Absent: Scott Sherman
 

1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 9:07 a.m. by Chair Hopp.
Commissioner introductions.
 

2. PUBLIC COMMENT
No member of the public came forward.
 

3. APPROVE MINUTES FOR MEETING HELD ON 1/25/25
M/S: Gopinath/Swain
Pending: Add commissioner Sadlier to the list of members who were present.
AYES: ALL
 

4. IPM Award Presentation (Information item)
Commissioners and staff presented the 2024 Annual IPM Award to the Marin Monarch Working Group
Commissioner Gopinath thanked the working group members for their service to the county.
Commissioner Hopp spoke about the benefits of Monarch education within the community. 
 

5. First Quarter Coordinator’s Report
Staff reviewed the quarterly data for January, February, and March 2025. Reviewed chemical and non-chemical IPM practices during that period, and shared photos of volunteers practicing IPM. There were no exemptions or violations of the IPM policy in the first quarter of 2025.

Commissioner Comments:  

Commissioner Mauceli spoke about the importance of safety when home gardeners use herbicidal vinegar. 

Commissioner Ashe will be attending in July and would like to provide an enrichment topic on that agenda to discuss flumioxazin. .
 

6. Commissioner Comments
Multiple commissioners and staff spoke about their grief over the loss of Steven Swain, and shared stories and memories. This commission and county staff deeply appreciate his work and legacy. 

Commissioner Ashe mentioned that she would like to see native plants in the traffic medians at Sir Francis Drake Blvd. She also mentioned the importance of the precautionary principle.
